Projectlibre

Link: http://www.projectlibre.org/

I found out about an alternative for Microsoft Project. It is called Projectlibre and the best thing about it is that it is FREE. Projectlibre runs almost like Microsoft Project, but with only small differences in the user interface. It can do Gantt and PERT charts, make network diagrams, and best of all, it is compatible with Microsoft Project. This means that you can open and save Microsoft Project documents on Projectlibre.

This is helpful to the class because for the group project you need to manage each team member's time and this software can do it. You can have person 1 do part a by X and person 2 do b by Y. Microsoft Project can do this too, but as mentioned earlier, this is free. It is important for teams to manage time well otherwise one person would wait while one finishes or one has a lot to do or not enough to do.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this, but there are many open source ("free") software for project management out there. Why is this one so special? Provide more details next time.
