A newly open source software called DC/OS, or data
center operating system is out to change the way software companies
operate. This new operating system is
made to execute code in a way that distributes the load across many different
machines. I know that this sounds a lot
like “virtualization” which ha been around for a while, but this OS is
different. This isn’t about dividing up the work between one computer with a
few virtual machines, its about creating containers which are much smaller than
virtual machines and easier to move across computers and perform with much more
efficiency.
As an MIS major, I think that this OS could be great
software to use if I ever work for or create a web-serviced business with
potentially many online users. It’s an
idea that Google and other tech giants have become successful in recent
years. The cloud has taken over in the past ten years
and this new operating system uses the cloud and springboards off of it.
In terms of systems analysis and design, this software will
enable new companies to become much larger than they could have in the past. It is the same concept of OS that
Google created when they were first growing. DC/OS is software that businesses can use,
not just hardcore computer engineers. It
really has the potential to substantially improve computer systems.
Article was much more detailed than your one paragraph. What makes this Google OS so different than anything else (besides redistributing the load across many different machines).
